Route through the Ronde Venen

Bicycle route along major and minor rivers and lakes.
Wilnes is a village in the municipality of Ronde Venen. It was once a swamp area. The Ronde Venen area was created by peat extraction and reclamation. Several rivers surround the area. These waters create an almost closed, round shape, within which the area was reclaimed (and also parcelled out). The route continues right along the river De Kromme Mijdrecht. In the water runs the border with the province of South Holland. Many residents have their own jetty and a boat moored there. When crossing, you drive out of the province of Utrecht and into Zuid-Holland. Through Nieuwkoop and along the Noordeinderplas are the most beautiful waterfront houses. Pay attention to the road or you will cycle right into the water. You pass the waters the Schippersgat and the Binnenpolder. When you leave the big waters, you will ride along the smaller rivers again. When you pass the river De Geer you will enter Utrecht again. When you return to your destination, you will have seen a beautiful part of Utrecht.
