Surroundings Zutphen

Over the years, the city of Zutphen has endured many things. In its 1,700 years of existence, the city has survived countless Viking attacks, the plague, the French, the Spanish and the Germans. Many Dutch cities with her, you might say. But the unique thing about Hanseatic city Zutphen is that despite all these events, an enormous amount of architecture has been preserved. So when you tour the city on your bicycle, you are bound to come across many of the 400 national monuments and the 500 municipal monuments, such as the Ring Wall that had to stop the Vikings, or the Walburgiskerk that reminds you of bygone Roman times. Not to mention the Burgundy Tower that with its cannons had to keep the Burgundians out of the city. Zutphen is thus rightfully the most historic city in Gelderland. Nowadays there is also a lot of art and museums present in the city which has raised the cultural value even further. But there is also something for nature lovers to see on this bicycle route. Just outside the city, along the floodplains of the IJssel River, you can enjoy vast meadows, narrow streams and the most beautiful forests. Or how about Lake Bronsbergen, where you can get a breath of fresh air or take a refreshing dip?
