The fruity Betuweroute

From Geldermalsen we enter an area full of winding rivers such as the Linge, the Lek and the Korne. The area is full of fruit crops such as apples, pears and cherries. In the right season, the scents of fruit will meet you on this route. Holland would not be Holland if it did not have to fight with water. So too along this route, where you regularly encounter a dike or dam. Halfway along this route, near Culemborg, lies Fort Everdingen. This is an old fort, now in use as a sluice. But that is not the only thing on this route, of course there are some nice windmills to be found, very different in architecture. In addition, the villages and hamlets on this route are full of churches and church towers. As you cycle past Rhenoy, take a look at the unique stork's nest located in the middle of the village. The St. Pieterskerk, Leerdam Castle and the St. Agatha Chapel are a host of beautiful architectural works of art. For the cream of the crop, you have to be back in Culemborg. Culemborg Castle, the Binnenpoort and the most expensive orphanage in the Netherlands and the Elisabeth Orphanage are definitely worth a look!
