The Lelystad forests and waters

A route through the woods and fields of the polder.
The route begins in Bataviastad, a city built in the traditional style of the Dutch Golden Age. You will cycle across the Batavia Yard right past the replica of the Seven Provinces and the Batavia. Cycling along the dike, you will pass Lelystad-Haven where you will cycle along the Knardijk between the Oostvaardersplassen and Het Bovenwater. Here you will arrive at the Torenvalktocht and the Burchtkamp, two varied areas consisting of forests and marshes. An excellent breeding ground for birds. The route continues straight through the Lelystad Nature Park. An area filled with red deer, otters, storks and other special species. Further along the route you enter a classic piece of Flevopolder with vast agricultural fields. Halfway to Swifterbant you will come across another observatory, but you can also continue cycling to Swifterbant to make a stop there. Behind Swifterbant is the Ketelbos where a lot of special birds and mammals live. Via the IJsselmeerdijk you ride back to Lelystad where you have a beautiful view over the IJsselmeer and you can see the village of Urk in the distance. Be careful when cycling because there are sheep walking freely along the dike.
