Wooded tour of Wageningen
The area formed in the ice age near Wageningse berg provides a beautiful backdrop for a fine bike ride in this municipality of Gelderland.
The route is characterized by many moraines that formed here some 150,000 years ago. The Wageningse berg and the Grebbeberg have become exponents of this and this background information gives cycling through such a region an extra dimension. The Gelderse Vallei is therefore pre-eminently a place to enjoy looking away from you, sometimes looking at forest and heathland, but also sometimes at the wide horizon of the floodplains along the Lower Rhine. The route is best completed counterclockwise, giving the cyclist the best possible views. On the south side of Wageningen, quite close to the plotted route, at Korteburg number 4, lies the beautifully situated nursing home Oranje Nassau's Oord, a beautiful estate with a rich history dating back to the early 17th century.
The route takes the cyclist further past the villages Heelsum and Renkum, part of the municipality of Oosterbeek, and then turns north. This region is further characterized by many attractions from the Second World War, such as various museums and defense walls but of course the cyclist can also regularly take a breather at one of the attractive catering establishments on the route.
