Beautiful bike ride in the Harskamp area

Numerous scenic roads, bike paths and places of interest characterize this tour, which not only includes the Hoge Veluwe National Park but also visits several historic villages in central Gelderland. Start and finish of the route are positioned in Harskamp, the traditionally famous infantry army village, part of which is now open to the public. Also located near the village is the Passiflorahoeve, a botanical garden that displays exuberant collections of fuchsias and hibiscuses especially in July and August, along with an impressive butterfly garden. The route continues northeast through the village of Kootwijk with the Kootwijkerzand (sand drifts), then turns south to Hoenderloo, a village surrounded by heathlands, sand drifts and forests. This area was largely replanted in the 1960s and now offers an array of flora and fauna, including many deer, wild boar, foxes and martens. Other notable spots on this fascinating and, by Dutch standards, undulating route include Schaarsbergen, part of the municipality of Arnhem, and further up, the village of Otterlo, near the Kroller-Muller Museum, and endowed with a number of interesting national monuments, including Oud Reemst, an agricultural enclave, a few kilometers south of Otterlo.
