Bicycle route in the Barneveld area

A fine route along poultry and the edge of The Veluwe.
From the south of Barneveld, you will cycle through the provinces of Gelderland and Utrecht. This allows you to see a beautiful part of De Gelderse Vallei and the edge of the Veluwe. The area around Barneveld is known for poultry farming. The crossing of chicken species has created the Barnevelder, a type of chicken kept for its meat and eggs. Passing large farms, you cycle towards Meulunteren, the edge of The Veluwe. Grasslands give way to forest, heath and sandy plains. About 150,000 years ago, the first moraines were created by ice and later temperature rise allowed forest formation to take place. Man cut down many of the forests, creating sand drifts. Which at the same time made people no longer want to live there. Only since the 19th century have people moved to the area again. In this part you can encounter pigs, but also deer, wisents and special birds. From Lunteren the landscape changes. Views alternate with rows of trees that demarcate the grasslands. Around every corner you will see a new panorama.
