Cycle past very old places in the Bommelerwaard

Rossum is located on the south bank of the river Waal, in the Bommelerwaard. The oldest mention of the name is from the year 893. The Bommelerwaard is a river island and is surrounded by the Waal, the Maas and the Afgedamde Maas. First the route goes along the Waal towards Zaltbommel. This is a fortified city from the year 850. The city has many attractions such as the St. Martin's Church, the old water tower, gutter ghosts (statues) and the Maarten van Rossum House where the work of Fiep Westendorp (illustrator Jip and Janneke) hangs. The road continued to Hedel. On the way the turnoff to Castle Ammersoyen can be taken. Along the Meuse the route continues to Kerkdriel. The first mention of this village dates back to 815/816. The last stretch runs along Rome. There is probably only one road that leads to Rome.
