Cycling on both sides of the Waal River

Cycling along the dikes with an almost constant view of the Waal River.
Dreumel, Ophemert, Boven Leeuwen, Beneden Leeuwen, Tiel and Ochten are just a few places on this beautiful route on both sides of the Waal River. The panorama could not be much more Dutch. From the dikes, with an almost constant view of the Waal, the tour leads from through the river landscape of the Betuwe and the more than 50 kilometers offer a succession of beautiful vistas, picturesque villages and with dikes on which Boudewijn de Groot once gave birth to his \"Lonely Cyclist. The river Waal shows her face from different sides and the importance of this river as a shipping route can be easily observed everywhere. From the starting point in Tiel, the route soon leads right along the banks of the river and then after Ochten via the ferry to continue the south side of the beautiful tour from Druten. Near the villages of Boven and Beneden Leeuwen the floodplains form a beautiful backdrop, contrasting with the higher land on the other side of the river. Between Heerwaarden and Varik the second ferry of the route is ready to take the cyclist back to the other bank. A visit to the village of Ophemert certainly warrants a visit to the thirteenth century castle of the same name.
