Discover the river region on this varied cycling route along the Lower Rhine and through the Betuwe. The route takes you through a landscape of dikes, floodplains, orchards, and quiet villages. Along the way, you'll cycle past towns such as Kesteren, Lienden, Ingen, Ommeren, Eck en Wiel, Elst, and Rhenen, where the river landscape constantly reveals a new view.
A beautiful section of the route runs along or near the Lower Rhine. Here you can enjoy sweeping views of the water, green floodplains, and the higher ground near Rhenen. Across the river, you can see the transition to the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, while on the Betuwe side you are mainly surrounded by open farmland, orchards, and quaint villages.
Further on, the route takes you along quiet polder roads and rural dikes through the Lower Betuwe. Especially around Lienden, Ingen, Ommeren, and Eck en Wiel, you can really get a feel for the Betuwe: fruit farming, small village centers, old farmhouses, and plenty of open space. It is a route with little traffic, plenty of nature, and ample opportunities to stop along the way for a beautiful view or a break by the water.
