From Westerbroek into nature

This bicycle route starts in the beautiful countryside of Groningen. At Waterhuizen you cross the Winschoterdiep. You ride up the Polderpad where you cycle right into the nature reserve. Here you will be treated to endless vistas. The Kropswolderbuitenpolder is a former water board. Farmland here has been changed into nature reserve. Old meanders of the river Hunze have been dug out and the area can now even serve as a water storage area when there is flooding. This area is a bird paradise. You may therefore encounter unusual birds here. You cycle along the Foxholstermeer towards the Zuidlaardermeer. At the bottom are boulders found from a road which would have once run there. Most of the time the lake is no deeper than one meter. There are channels in which people sail fanatically. On one of the beaches you might want to paddle in the water. The southern part of the lake is in Drenthe. You will then cycle through quaint towns such as De Groeve, Spijkerboor and Zuidlaren. Don't forget to take a break in one of the cozy cafes you pass. The beautiful landscape gives you rest and nice views over the meadows. Back on location you can enjoy this.
