Great bike ride through the Veluwezoom

This tour contains all the ingredients to give the cyclist an unforgettable day of forests, river landscapes and cultural sights
Loenen, in Gelderland, near the Reeendal campsite, is the starting point for a beautiful route along the banks of the Veluwe. Loenen has a couple of substantial waterfalls, the Vrijenberger Spreng, although artificially constructed, but an attractive sight nonetheless. The route continues to Dieren, municipality of Rheden, with many opportunities for nature recreation, including via the Carolina Mountain, a 50-meter-high hill that used to be the domain of hunting scenes. A little further on we arrive in Ellecom, right on the floodplains of the IJssel River. The village forms a great transition from the woods to the river landscape. Middachten Castle is the main attraction here with its beautiful estate and magnificent gardens. After a few kilometers of cycling, the route continues via a ferry crossing at Olburgen. According to many, the IJssel is the most beautiful river in the Netherlands and cycling along its banks is a very pleasant pastime in itself. After the villages of Rha and Steenderen the river IJssel is crossed for the second time at Bronkhorst, the smallest town in our country, immensely popular for its numerous, mainly agricultural national monuments. The tour then continues via Brummen, again characterized by many country houses and castles, of which Groot Engelenburg is the most important. There is plenty to enjoy on this route, especially the wooded surroundings of Eerbeek. This town is home to the Netherlands' most famous oil mill, a national monument that has recently been restored. The tour ends after this at the starting point in Loenen.
