Bike route through forests, estates and Zeeland's water.
The city of Bergen op Zoom originated on a sand ridge in a peat area. Due to a major city fire, it is not exactly clear when the city received its city rights, but it is believed to be around 1200. After passing the highway, you will drive past the Canadian Cemetery. Here 1,116 (mostly Canadian) World War II soldiers are buried. The route continues through one of the Nature Gates of Brabant, identified by a 4-meter-high key. At Lievensberg Estate there is one. This is an area where nature and culture meet. The forests and estates breathe the atmosphere of pure nature. At the transition from forests to meadows and grasslands, Zeeland comes into view. The Markiezaatsmeer, on both sides of the road, and the many windmills let you feel the atmosphere of this century. After so much water, you cycle back into Brabant at Tholen. Through the friendly surroundings you ride back into the picturesque Bergen op Zoom.
