Route through the Gelderse Valley

From Bennekom you set off through an area on the border of the Veluwe and Gelderse Vallei. You will take the ferry twice so don't forget to bring some change. You will encounter forested areas as well as wet areas. You will ride along the Valleikanaal, also called De Grift, through the area regionally called Het Binnenveld. This is also the border between Utrecht and Gelderland. Wet areas used to be covered with blue grassland, which is therefore not common nowadays. In nature reserve the Blue Room, through which you cycle, the water of the Lower Rhine has a lot of influence. Nature is constantly changing here. The Blauwe Kamer is a paradise for birdwatchers. The bird hide offers a view of the bird sanctuary. Spoonbills, egrets and cormorants are regularly spotted. You cross the Lower Rhine by ferry and cycle past Opheusden. Parallel to the Lower Rhine you cycle over the dike which offers beautiful views. At the ferry you make the crossing towards Wageningen. You follow the route through a forested area through which De Molenbeek flows. Almost at the end of the route you will have enjoyed the beautiful greenery of the Gelderse Vallei, but also a delicious cup of coffee along the way.
