Route through the Krimpenerwaard and Lansing nature reserve

A route with lots of natural beauty and water on the South Holland and Utrecht border.
From your guesthouse you drive into the beautiful surroundings of Montfoort. You meander along the Hollandsche IJssel along the Willeskop nature development area. Thousands of birds visit the area for the great seasonal migration to sleep, rest and eat. You drive into Oudewater with its terraces and many monuments. One of them is the Waag. This is where people were weighed. Those who were too light were accused of sorcery and ended up being burned at the stake. In the 16th, 17th centuries Oudewater was an important producer of rope, which was made from the raw material hemp. At Haastrecht you drive into the province of South Holland, the Krimpenerwaard. The small peat river Vlist flows here, which used to be used for the polders around it. That is why there were many mills here. You have beautiful views here and can experience the tranquility of nature. Through Schoonhoven, also called Zilverstad, the route goes by water. Be sure to bring some petty cash for the ferries. Nieuwpoort is a fortified town with a historic downtown, part of which is protected cityscape. You can feel the history as you ride through the center. Along the Lek you cycle to Ameide where you take the ferry across and ride through the Lansing nature reserve. This nature reserve around Boskoop is 40,000 m2 in size. A route where you experience peace and quiet and enjoy the greenery and water.
