Route via Geertruidenberg and Drimmelen
Cycling along the Meuse River, the Amer River and across the Donge River.
From the Kurenpolder, it goes under the highway to the Bergsche Maas. This dug water is 24.5 km long. The Bergsche Maas, the Maas, the Amer and the Donge in Geertruidenberg are connected. Geertruidenberg is an old fortified town. The oldest facades are 17th century but the core, cellars for example, may be older. The old merchant's houses on the Markt will make you feel an atmosphere of the past. In museum De Roos there is a lot of city history to see. Along the remnants of the fortifications dating back to 1833, you cycle to Drimmelen. Across the Amer River is the Biesbos. The former village of Drimmelen was wiped off the map during the Sint-Elisabethflood of 1421. Much further inland, Oud-Drimmelen then came into being. When this was largely destroyed by fire, a New Drimmelen came into being. Meanwhile, this is the Drimmelen of today. On the Weitjes there are still two short-gabled farms, one of which was also a tannery. Along the Breede Vaart it enters the large-scale agricultural polders. Passing Geertruidenberg, you head back towards the Kurenpolder.
