Short route through the Veluwe countryside
Bike route through sand drifts and along streams.
From Hierden, head toward Duinen for a route that is not too long. You will cycle under the highway. The route goes through coniferous and deciduous forest but also through a drifting sand. You will pass the Beekhuizerzand, which is a military training area, so do not be alarmed. You continue towards Nunspeet and pass the most beautiful dream houses hidden among the trees. For a long time the village was threatened by advancing drifting sands, but afforestation has counteracted this. During the Second World War a lot of things happened around Nunspeet. There have been special places for people in hiding and a dropping zone for materials and even agents. The village of Nunspeet has long been an artists' village. On some facades you can read poems. Parallel to the Veluwemeer you cycle to Hierden. From the Veluwe run several streams to the edge of the area. Some of these streams have been dug, others are natural. You pass Pangelerbeek, Bijsselsebeek Brook, Nodbeek, Killenbeek and Hierdensebeek.
