The Groote Peel

National Park de Groote Peel is a breeding ground for nearly one hundred species of birds. In addition, it is a stopping place for many, many migratory birds that fly past it in spring or autumn. This is why the area is also internationally recognized as a \"Wetland. This means that the bog in the Groote Peel is of great significance in terms of nature. The raised bog, which was formed over the centuries, gives a very special and historical dimension to the landscape. Peat pits, peel canals and large pools show traces of centuries of peat extraction. Thanks to an extensive network of bike paths, you can enjoy the many vistas of this swampy, but also very varied landscape on your bike. In addition to the abundance of water, there is also room for forests, heaths and shrublands, among other things. Over time, these areas have attracted special plant species such as the carnivorous sundew that likes to eat insects. But there are also special animal species such as the crane, which likes to make their pit stop here in spring and autumn. But various rodents, mammals - large and small - and reptiles also abound here. The bicycle route around the National Park de Groote Peel is therefore also a beautiful piece of nature to cycle through!
