The wild nature of the Veluwezoom
This beautiful route along the river IJssel and through the Veluwezoom goes through the middle of nature.
Through the green meadows of the Dierensche Hank and the Middachterbeek you will arrive in Ellecom, past the Agevoor estate and finally arrive in De Steeg. Here I recommend a stop at Middachten Castle with its beautiful gardens. A little further on is the town. Before diving into the wild nature of the Veluwezoom, you can always take a look at the village church of Rheden with its Romanesque tower from the 12th century.
When you arrive in the Veluwezoom you are soon in the middle of nature. Beautiful forests alternate with a rough patch of drifting sand. Red deer, roe deer, wild boar, foxes, badgers and pine marten hide everywhere in this 5100 hectare piece of nature. There are also a number of observation posts especially for looking for the animals. Several owls, bats and rare birds gather here. But also some species of lizards and snakes can be found in this unique piece of the Netherlands.
