Cycling in Arnhem
Arnhem lies against the Veluwezoom, and that is what shapes the cycling here. North of the city the ground rises into the woods and heathland of the Veluwe. South lies the Lower Rhine with its floodplains. Half an hour of riding puts you in two completely different landscapes.
Five routes run through Arnhem. Towards Schaarsbergen and Ede the going turns hilly, where the height differences are most pronounced. Head the other way and you follow the Rhine through the water meadows, past historic villages. Another route takes you up onto the Veluwe by way of the streams near Renkum, or south into the open country around Elst.
Along the way you pass Oosterbeek, Heelsum, Renkum, Wolfheze and Kievitsdel, and northwards Mossel and Oud-Reemst. The routes run from 28 to 61 kilometres.
