In de tijd dat Napoleon Bonaparte het bewind voerde in Nederland had Het Arsenaal (vanaf de 17e eeuw tot een aantal jaar terug "Het Armamentarium") de functie van opslagplaats. Militair materiaal was hier opgeslagen om snel van Delft, via de Schie naar Delfshaven, naar strategische plekken aan Hollandse grenzen vervoerd te kunnen worden. Waaronder naar vestingstad Brielle en Hellevoetsluis, waar zich de belangrijkste legerplaats en marinehaven van het Koninkrijk Holland bevond. Je kunt Het Arsenaal nog steeds bezichtigen. Het is de locatie waar horeca, een hotel, toerisme en cultuur, kunst en vermaak samenkomen.
