Beautiful bike ride through the vast Zeeland countryside

It was mainly the flood disaster of 1530 that made this part of Zeeland what it is today. Many hamlets and villages formed after that catastrophe on the back of a creek, forming the characteristic landscape model of Zeeland. The start and end point of the scenic tour is located at Yerseke, tourist attraction of note, especially through the annual cultivation of millions of pounds of mussels, oysters and lobster. After crossing the important east-west connections A58 and the Zuid-Beveland Canal, the route continues through Kruiningen to the banks of the Westerschelde, gateway to the port of Antwerp. The surroundings of this estuary are characterized by a great diversity of flora and fauna, not least because of the mixing of brackish and fresh water. After about thirteen kilometers, we reach the village of Biezelinge, birthplace of former Prime Minister Balkenende. The route continues through the hamlets of Abbekinderen and Kloetinge, where memories of the 80-year war are still stored. Via De Poel we arrive in Goes, the most important town in the area. This town includes the imposing Maria Magdalena church, but also the beautiful old city hall and the beautiful harbor justify a visit. The route continues along Lake Goese, until we reach the Oosterschelde at Wemeldinge. The last part of the course runs right along this beautiful coastline.
