Tour of the island of Schouwen-Duiveland

Cycling along the North Sea and the Delta Works.
From Brouwersdam in Zeeland, start cycling across this beautiful island of Schouwen-Duiveland. The island is mostly flat and parts are below sea level. On the western tip is a dune area whose highest point is about 42 meters above sea level. Because most of it lies so low, the Delta Works were built. At junction 70, you can choose to cycle up and down to the Oosterscheldekering and Deltapark Neeltje Jans. Thanks to the storm surge barrier, the chance of another flood is now very small. From the flood disaster to the construction of the Delta Works, you can see it here. The bike route runs along paths that are often car-free and past De Schelphoek nature reserve. This is a creek area along which you can also see many olive willows. Cycling through the quiet polder landscape you pass meadows, mills, farms and small villages. After such a wonderful trip, it is good to relax in Renesse.
