Discover Historic Tholen: Bike tour along water, land and history

This short route offers the opportunity to explore a bit of Tholen. Start in Oud-Vossemeer, where you will cycle through the historic village center. The village has a rich history and exudes the charm of days gone by. From there, you will cycle across the (former) island of Tholen, along the Scheldt-Rhine connection. Enjoy the tranquility and beautiful views. Behind the dike, the views of the farmlands are breathtaking, and from the dike you have a magnificent view of the water. At every turn, the landscape changes. The view remains surprising. Just as the Huys van Roosevelt has a rich history, so does Zeeland. Since the Middle Ages it has been battled against the water, resulting in land gain and loss. After the 1953 flood disaster, the Delta Works project was realized, making Zeeland safe and an ideal place for living and recreation ever since. An additional benefit was the improvement of connections with the mainland. From the Krabbekreek you cycle towards the Oosterschelde, where you can paddle when the weather is nice. Through the polders and rural roads you will return to Oud-Vossemeer. Here you can relax and enjoy the route as if you were back home.
