Cycling in Rhenen
Rhenen is a great starting point if you want to explore a variety of landscapes on a bike ride. You’ll cycle along the Lower Rhine and over the dikes, but you can also head toward the Grebbeberg and the forests of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. This way, the river, dikes, and forest easily alternate during your ride.
If you cross the Lower Rhine, you’ll enter the Betuwe region. Here, the routes wind through quiet villages, orchards, and fruit trees. From the dikes, you’ll have views of Rhenen and the Grebbeberg at various points. During blossom season, you can choose a route that takes you through the Betuwe’s blossom fields. Towns such as Kesteren, Opheusden, Ochten, and IJzendoorn lie along various routes through this area.
There are also options toward Wageningen. You can cycle along the Lower Rhine, through the Blauwe Kamer, or further toward the Binnenveld and the Gelderse Vallei. If you’d like to take a longer ride, you can head further into the Betuwe from the Rhenen area—for example, toward Tiel and Buren—or choose a route along the Waal River.
You can start a route at various junctions in and around Rhenen. For a break along the way, there are several places in Rhenen to stop for food and drinks, including Café ’t Nippertje, Moeke Rhenen, and Paviljoen Hotel-Restaurant-Brasserie. This means you can plan either a short bike ride or a longer trip through the surrounding area starting from Rhenen.
